Impact Scholarship

The Impact Scholarship is our commitment to diversifying the tech industry by lowering the financial barrier of entry to students affected by systemic barriers and widespread injustice. Burlington Code Academy believes that by providing this scholarship to BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and womxn identifying students, we can empower the future faces of tech, in turn demanding a more diverse and inclusive industry.

BIPOC

‍The tech industry is host to a predominantly white workforce, statistics showing that 69% of tech employees are white, while made up of only 8% Latinx people and 7% Black individuals.

Womxn

Historically, the tech industry has been dominated by men. For example, Only 26% of computing jobs are held by women. This number has been on a steady decline for years. Bootcamps offer some long overdue solutions to these problems of inequity; while women only make up 18% of Computer Science graduates, 35% of bootcampers are women.

LGBTQ+

‍While an estimated 10 million Americans identify as LGBTQ, tech industry roles do not reflect this. Although many companies have implemented LGBTQ+ inclusion policies, few numbers in these groups are reaching the top levels of these companies.The issue is not and has never been lack of talent, but instead a lack of access and equal representation in the workplace.We have committed $50,000 to our Diversity Initiative, which directly funds our Impact Scholarship. The Impact Scholarship provides discounted tuition to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color), LGBTQ+ individuals & womxn. We recognize that these groups are vastly underrepresented within the industry and pledge to play our part in rectifying that.
