BCA's 3rd Demo Day

On August 22nd, 2019, Burlington Code Academy hosted it’s 3rd Demo Day at the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies, a night where Web Development Bootcamp students present their capstone projects to friends, family, tech professionals and potential employers.

This cohort worked with real organizations, Ceres Greens, HOPE Works VT and You Need A Budget (YNAB), to solve actual problems using their newfound software engineering skills.

Ceres Greens

Ceres Greens is an indoor crop growing facility based in Barre, VT. The student team, consisting of Connor Greenbaum, Connor McGinnis, Nick Castle and Adam Shappy, worked closely with Ceres Greens CTO, Greg Kelly, on creating a mobile and desktop enabled database where employees can quickly check the variable status of the plants in the facility.

HOPE Works VT is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending sexual violence and supporting victims of sexual violence. BCA students Aaron Lavery, Django Koenig, Gabe Nelson and Chris Wissell worked with the organization to build an online form and collection database for information collected by the crisis team.

You Need A Budget

You Need A Budget, or YNAB is a Vermont based company that builds budgeting software for everyday people. The student team, made up of Cohort 2 grads Eric Duany, Marshall Estlund, Jake Barrington and Richard Raabe, delved into the world of machine learning and helped the business fix errors in their voice activation system through the YNAB mobile app.

All three groups created something that can and will be used in some capacity by these organizations. Some students were able to make connections through these companies and through the viewers of their presentations, providing them with leads to jobs in the software engineering field.

Demo Day has always been a success here at BCA and this Cohort was no different. Learn more about the teams here
